Benefits

Movement is composed of physical fitness, can be used as a coping mechanism, and promotes positive self-esteem/identity formation.

Movement is our organizer.

We are not meant to be alone or to operate in isolation.

Joy is a disruptor.

of the spaces in which we easily stay (e.g., depression, fear, stagnation, discontentment).

Movement can teach us how to "move through," even when we don't feel like it or feel as if we deserve it.

Authenticity shapes identity.

When we feel freer to "just be," it changes neural connections in our minds and aids in healthier people. Come Move With Me! is fun, energizing, and promotes holistic well-being. I'd like to partner with DJs, local artists for playlists, and organizations to build weekly programming in-person and virtually.

Creating Community and Cultivating joy by way of Movement Culture.

In 2017,
I began to notice a stirring within me, a longing for movement. There were moments when all I wanted was to head to the nearby park, turn up the music, and let my body sway to its rhythm without a care for onlookers or judgments. I yearned to embrace a new kind of self-love, to reconnect with something inherently natural that seemed absent from my daily routine.

In my upbringing, I wasn't always the most open-hearted or expressive. I often found solace in the confines of my bedroom, perhaps influenced by the absence of both parents and the strong presence of my resilient grandmother in our second-generation household. It's possible that unresolved traumas lay buried within me, awaiting the maturity to confront and heal them.

However, a shift occurred when I relocated to Philadelphia in 2014. It was as if a wave of healing washed over me with every step I took in that city. Perhaps it was the vibrant tapestry of black culture that enveloped me, offering a sense of belonging and expression.

My journey took a transformative turn when I pursued my Masters of Arts in Urban Studies with a focus on Community Arts at Eastern University in 2018. Learning from a trauma-informed arts perspective opened my eyes to new possibilities and profoundly altered my path.

And now, here I am. My ultimate aspiration is for everyone to tap into their inner energy, reconnect with their bodies, and embark on their healing journeys in their own time.+
